When people decorate (or redecorate, as the case may be) their homes, one of the rooms often overlooked is the bathroom. Although you’re not expected to present your bathroom to every person who visits your house, wouldn’t it be nice to bathe in a place where you can truly unwind and relax as you clean up?
Here are a few bathroom ideas you may want to keep in mind when you’re ready to spice up your house:
1. Wall Art
Adding a simple wall sculpture or framed photograph can instantly spice up your bathroom. You don’t even have to buy art pieces of any kind. You could get family pictures framed or have some fun with your kids by letting them draft a few images that you frame. As an alternative to framed artwork, you could stencil your crafted design to the wall.
If you have a large, thick throw rug lying around somewhere, you may want to use it as an accent to your bathroom floor. You’ll be surprised at how something so simple can easily transform your bathroom from a clinical, uninteresting area into a room with a personality of its own. It’s best to choose a rug in a solid colour, although one with an elegant decorative pattern could work just as well. Make sure your rug is the non-skid variety or install grip strips for safety purposes.
3. Personal Touch
See if you have trinkets or any other personal stuff you can use as bathroom décor. Candles, colour blocks, or vases of varying sizes are among the best choices. These items can effectively liven up your bathroom without too much effort on your part. If you have a flower garden, then it would also be a good idea to put some fresh blooms in the vases. Even the smallest touch of nature can make a bathroom a lot more relaxing.
If you want to add aesthetic value to your bathroom, a unique mirror attached to one wall could do the trick. You could search your attic or basement for an old mirror to use for this purpose, or scour flea markets for old mirrors with interesting designs. If you want to create the illusion of having more space in your bathroom, you may want to a wall-to-wall mirror on one side. You may also want to get a floor-to-ceiling mirror installed at the far corner of the bathroom to add depth.
Bathrooms usually come with generic (boring) ceiling domes. Jazz up your bathroom easily by replacing the dome with a more creative light covering. Another option is to forgo the overhead light in favour of stylish table lamps and/or standing floor lamps. Lamps cast a more flattering light and create a more relaxing ambiance.
The bathroom may be a relatively secluded part of your house, but that doesn’t mean you should neglect it when you decorate. There are plenty of ways to spice it up without spending too much, and the ideas above should give you some inspiration.
